I recently visited the CupNoodles Museum in Yokohama's Minatomirai area, and even on a Monday, it was absolutely buzzing with people!
Since time was a bit tight, we opted for the DIY CupNoodles Factory experience, which costs 250 JPY per person. The "Chicken Ramen Factory" (where you get to knead your own noodles) costs 1,000 JPY per person and definitely requires an advance reservation. (Also, note that their regular closing days are not always on weekends, so double-check before you go!)
If you want to make your own 250 JPY cup noodle, the staff at the ground floor counter will ask you when you're buying your admission ticket if you'd like to participate (it's an additional purchase!). We chose to enter immediately without booking a later slot. The counter staff will also ask what language brochure you prefer โ if you don't speak Japanese, don't hesitate to ask for the Chinese version!
And don't worry if you don't have exact change for the cup noodle vending machines; there's a change machine nearby where you can insert banknotes to get smaller denominations!
Exploring the Museum ๐ถโ๏ธ๐ก
The DIY CupNoodles Factory is on the third floor. Before heading there, we explored the second floor, which showcases the history of instant noodles in Japan, along with some from other countries. Interestingly, there weren't many from China, and we even spotted the infamous "laotan suancai" instant noodles! ๐
The second floor also features a fun exhibit (images P6 & P7) where you can stand in a small room that creates a visual illusion on screen, making people appear to shrink or grow. While it might not look like much to the naked eye, it creates a fantastic visual difference when captured on camera โ perfect for fun souvenir photos! Just be aware that this spot also tends to have a queue.
It's a really interactive and engaging museum, definitely worth a visit for all ages!
