📍Why visit Furong Town?
This is the filming location of the movie "Furong Town" and the only ancient town in China "hanging on a waterfall"! By day, it’s a landscape painting; by night, a dazzling fairyland. Rich in Tujia ethnic customs, it’s perfect for a slow, relaxing trip. Promise me! You must stay at least one night to experience the morning mist and the evening lights—it’s absolutely worth it!

📍Furong Town • Hongshilin Summer Resort Secret Spot
🚄Transportation: Direct high-speed train from Changsha to Furong Town Station, then an 8-minute taxi ride to the scenic area
🏨Accommodation: Friends recommended Furong Daguan, Furongli, Yucun Caotang, and Zhenpu Camp - Wild Luxury Starry Camp. I chose Zhenpu Camp; the kids loved it, and the waterfall night view was amazing.
🍲Food Recommendations: Liu Xiaoqing rice tofu, Artemisia cake, rice tofu, Tujia cured meat hotpot, Osmanthus fish, and local specialties like cured meat and sausages—delicious!
💃Folk Activities: The 11th Xiangxi Mud Festival is grand with various programs paired with Furong Town’s ancient charm and dazzling lights. There are also various ethnic activities regularly, full of minority culture~
Must-visit spots in Furong Town❗
1️⃣Waterfall Viewing Platform
The scenic viewing platform lets you immerse yourself in this ancient town hanging on a waterfall, offering panoramic views of Furong Town. Both daytime and nighttime views are great for photos!
2⃣Furong Waterfall
Bring a drone if you have one—the god’s-eye view is even more spectacular. Some shops across the waterfall also have great views!
3⃣Tuwang Bridge
Bright red lanterns hang high; many travel photos are taken here. The Tujia Wind and Rain Bridge offers panoramic shots of the ancient town’s stilted buildings.
4⃣Wuli Stone-paved Street
The oldest street in the ancient town, witnessing thousands of years of change. The movie "Furong Town" was filmed here. Wearing Miao costumes here feels very authentic.
5⃣Tuwang Palace
A palace built on a cliff; the moment it lights up is stunning. There are many small scenic spots in the area. Personally, these five are not to be missed.
❌Drawbacks:
❶Boat tours are not open to individual travelers, only to tour groups.
❷The ancient town is small and somewhat commercialized, with limited activities besides watching performances.
❸The river water near the waterfall is very dirty with a lot of silt and has an odor.
❹Historically significant cultural sites like the Tusi Palace, Xizhou Copper Pillar, and Tusi Ancestral Hall are not open to the public.
‼️Notes:
1️⃣June to September is when the waterfall is most spectacular! It’s dry in winter…
2️⃣The ancient town is small and can be explored in one day. If time allows, stay one night; after 9 PM and early morning, there are fewer people—great for photography📷~
3️⃣The lights turn on at 7:30 PM. Photographers, remember to arrive early to secure your spot.
4️⃣Most guesthouses in the scenic area offer high-speed train pick-up services! We don’t recommend the guesthouse we stayed at.
5️⃣You can freely walk on the plank road below the big waterfall! Perfect for amazing photos!
If possible, visit Furong Town during the rainy season or after the flood season on a sunny day to see the huge waterfall. This time, there was a bit of regret…
