. The culture of having fun with the gods in Fuzhou is rare in China! The ancient town of Songkou hides a movie temple|||
Here's a share about a small and magical place around Fuzhou: the [Movie Temple] in Yongtai Songkou Ancient Town.
History:
This movie temple was originally Dachen Temple, which was used to commemorate Chen Bisheng, a famous general of the Song Dynasty. In 1958, it was converted into a cinema, but it was later abandoned due to disrepair. In 2014, after the renovation, it was transformed into the unique appearance of a cinema and temple coexisting.
Walking into the movie temple, you will see the ancient opera stage, which was left over from the previous temple. Further inside, there are rows of old wooden seats, a typical cinema configuration; and when you look up again, behind the seats are shrines with flickering candles, enshrining the gods. This wonderful combination of ancient and modern is really hard to describe.
Songkou Ancient Town itself is super charming, with old streets, ancient houses, and old docks. When you are tired of strolling around, you can also taste the local egg swallows, nine-layer cakes, and scallion pancakes to experience the authentic ancient town style.
