Pingzhou Academy 📚

We visited Pingzhou Academy (Pingzhou Shuyuan) on a bright summer afternoon, and the moment we stepped onto the small island it rests on, it felt like the world quieted down just a little 🌿🌤️. The boat ride across the river was short but peaceful water shimmering, breeze light and once we landed, the academy unfolded slowly: low stone steps, shaded courtyards, and quiet halls tucked under old trees.

What we loved most was how still everything felt. We wandered past calligraphy tablets and old pavilions, the sound of cicadas steady in the background 🎐📖. Inside the lecture hall, sunlight filtered through wooden lattice windows, and the air smelled faintly of old wood and river wind. A few visitors sat in silence on stone benches, as if waiting for thoughts to arrive. It wasn’t grand, and that’s what made it special a place that invites you to pause, reflect, and just be. For a quiet summer escape full of air, space, and calm, Pingzhou Academy felt just right 🌿😊.
