The road leading up to Tianmen Mountain, famously known as the 99-Bend Road, is just as iconic as the cable car ride. Looking out from the bus window, you'll see the road winding like a snake along the cliffs, creating a stunning visual spectacle. Each turn leaves you marveling, "How did they even build a road like this?"
The entire road stretches about 11 kilometers, featuring a total of 99 curves. The number '9' symbolizes eternity and perfection in Chinese culture, which is why the road was intentionally designed with 99 bends. As you ascend, the seemingly endless curves perfectly match its nickname, "The Road to Heaven" (Tianmen Cave).
A tip for travelers: if you're prone to motion sickness, it's best to prepare in advance. The numerous sharp turns can make you feel dizzy. However, the scenery is so breathtaking that it's worth enduring a little discomfort. The lush green mountain ranges and cliffs outside the window look like something out of a movie, and the winding road itself is both dizzying and mesmerizing.
If you're visiting Tianmen Mountain, don't just take the cable car—be sure to experience the 99-Bend Road bus ride as well. There's a reason it's called "The Road to Heaven."
