Summer is here again, and rafting in Guizhou is heating up! Today, I want to recommend the recently popular Gao Guo River Rafting in Zhenyuan, Guizhou. It’s really popular for good reasons. Next, I’ll answer some questions you might want to ask:
Q: How long is it? How much time do I need to play?
A: The whole trip takes 2 to 3 hours, about 3 to 5 km, letting you fully enjoy the fun of rafting in one go.
Q: Is it safe? Can I play if I can’t swim?
A: There are safety staff stationed along the way, especially at rapid sections. If you fall into the water, the safety staff will immediately come to help, so you don’t have to worry about your safety at all.
Q: Is there food along the way? What if I get hungry? Are there toilets?
A: There are convenience stores, barbecue stands, and water gun entertainment for all kinds of supplies. Hungry during rafting? Grab a hot dog right away. Thirsty? When the boat docks, you can get any drink you want. Toilets are also available.
Q: What if I can’t raft due to sudden issues or special conditions?
A: If you have elderly companions or can’t raft temporarily, don’t worry. There are walking sightseeing trails along the way. Listening to the “monkeys’ cries on both banks” while walking is also a great experience, haha.
Q: How is the water quality?
A: Guizhou is a place with hardly any factories, so the water quality speaks for itself.
Q: How to get there?
A: If driving, just navigate to Gao Guo River Scenic Area. If not driving, you can stay in Zhenyuan Ancient Town the day before and take a carpool to the scenic area the next day.
Address: Gao Guo River Scenic Area, Zhenyuan County, Qiandongnan, Guizhou
Tickets: Full price 220 RMB, discounted 180 RMB (teachers, students, military, etc.)
Note: Remember to bring an extra set of clothes. On-site, be sure to buy a waterproof phone bag and water scoops, which are essential. Don’t wear open-toed sandals. If you’re alone, don’t worry—you can share a boat on-site (2 people per boat). Although you’re rafting on a boat, most of the time water splashes into the boat, so your body will be soaking in water. Be mentally prepared! Also, there is no network coverage on-site, so remember to inform your family in advance and check in safely. Malin River Canyon Rafting.
