The completion of the Wuliang Hall coincided with the 70th birthday of the Empress Dowager, and in order to celebrate the Empress Dowager's birthday, Emperor Shenzong gave this temple the name "Shengshou Wannian Temple". Wannian Temple is one of the oldest ancient temples in Mount Emei, and Li Bai stayed in this temple when he ascended Emei, and the Guangjun monk played the piano for Li Bai.
The beamless brick hall has a unique structure, which is a square dome-topped tower structure, which is modeled after the architecture of the Gena temple in India, and the shape also incorporates the meaning of "round place". There are doors in front and behind the hall, and on the front door of the brick hall, there are the five characters "Shengshou Wannian Temple" inscribed by Ming Shenzong.
It is said that the building has experienced a total of 18 earthquakes of magnitude 5 to 7.9 for more than 400 years, but it has remained unharmed and is known as a miracle in the history of ancient architecture in our country.
The Baye Tower of Wannian Temple contains the three treasures of Emei: the golden seal, the Buddha's tooth, and the Bayeux Sutra.
The gold seal was given by the Ming Wanli Emperor, and the six characters "Treasure of the King of Puxian Yuan" were engraved in the middle, although it was a copper seal, but it was given by the emperor, so it was called the golden seal.
This "Buddha's tooth", 1.28 feet long and weighing 6.5 kg, was paid by monks in Sri Lanka during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. This tooth is not the tooth of Shakyamuni, but the tooth fossil of a saber-toothed elephant, which has a history of 200,000 years and is quite precious. Because the place of origin is Sri Lanka, the Buddha's tooth, the tunnel is called the Buddha's tooth.
In ancient times, India did not have paper, and monks used Sanskrit to engrave Buddhist scriptures on leaves. The leaves used for scripture carving are mostly Bedolo leaves growing in the Indian rainforest. This leaf has the characteristics of "no column worm, no mildew, and no brokenness", so it is called Baye Leaf Sutra. This Bayeux Sutra is 50 cm long and 12.5 cm wide, with a total of 246 pages, and 69,777 words of the "Buddhist Sutra", which is the entire scripture of the "Zunyi Ahan Sutra". This Bayeux Sutra was given by the king of Burma and is regarded as a treasure of Buddhism.
All the way down from Wannian Temple, there are steps along the way, and there is no need to climb, but a long descent will make your calves sore. About 25 minutes walk to Qingyin Pavilion. It is located in a valley, and the scenery is completely different from the Wannian Temple in the middle of the mountain and the golden peak on the top of the mountain. The forests here are dense, the mountains and rivers are beautiful, and even in the depths of winter, there are still green colors.
The monkeys in Mount Emei can be described as famous, they have a large number of monkeys, they block the road and rob, and they are famous bully monkeys, even so, It can't stop the enthusiasm of tourists to come to Emei to watch the monkeys. Start hiking from Qingxin Pavilion, pass through Yixiantian and other scenic spots, and arrive at the ecological monkey area in about half an hour.
