West of the reservoir, at Yangshan and Sujiadang, was where Zhu Yuanzhang's general Chang Yuchun stationed his troops during the Peasant War at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. He engaged Chen Youliang's subordinate Zhao Pusheng in a fierce battle in the valleys of Jiuhua, annihilating tens of thousands of his troops and achieving remarkable military success. To commemorate this general, a General Temple was built at the foot of the mountain. The Qingyang County Chronicles record: "The temple's founding date is unknown, but it was quite magnificent, with arched eaves and flying corners, standing over ten feet tall, approximately 12 feet wide and 12 feet long. The temple had a spacious courtyard, and a full-length statue of General Chang was inside." However, the villagers still maintain the custom of "worshiping the general," and people from dozens of miles around come to the temple to burn incense and kowtow. On the Lantern Festival, on the 15th day of the first lunar month, people often set off firecrackers and perform dragon lantern dances to commemorate the long-departed general. The temple was later burned down by the Japanese army. After the reservoir was completed, the renowned novelist Jin Yong was invited to name Niuqiao Reservoir "General Lake."
Today, the newly built winding mountain road surrounding Jiangjun Lake looks from afar like a soft ribbon gently weaving around the mountainside. The lake is surrounded by mountains, lush with bamboo and trees. Numerous streams flow into the lake, creating a clear and cool water. Small hilltops surrounded by the green water form a green peninsula, swaying in the azure waves. A light mist drifts across the surface, and bamboo rafts drift leisurely. In spring, a vibrant array of flowers blooms around the lake and the peninsula, giving Jiangjun Lake a lace-like appearance. Under the autumn moon, the water is as clear and cool as a mirror, resembling a giant lotus leaf drifting among the mountains, imbuing the back of Jiuhua Mountain with a spiritual and Zen-like atmosphere. Waterfowl fly across the lake, their melodious calls adding to the lake's tranquility. Amidst the drifting white clouds, the peaks of Jiuhua Mountain's back are reflected in the lake. The contrast between the lake's light and the mountain's color creates a unique natural landscape within the area, making Jiangjun Lake a major tourist attraction in Qingyang County. On weekends and holidays, there is a constant stream of tourists visiting the area for sightseeing and fishing. The former "Ox Bridge" and the ancient village, along with their entire appearance, have sunk into the water and become a part of history. From then on, "Jiangjun Lake" opened a new chapter in Qingyang's history.
