Introducing Maixiayan

Maixiayan is one of the four major scenic spots in Xianyou, Putian City. It is located in Zhongshan Town in the northeast of the county. The mountains are majestic, the caves are hidden, and the strange rocks are interesting. It is fascinating. Lin Guangchao, a famous Neo-Confucianist in the Song Dynasty, called it "Little Wuyi Mountain".

The Maixiayan Scenic Area, covering 6 square kilometers, is a key component of the Jiuli Lake provincial-level tourist area. Dotted with purple-red cliffs, peaks, and stone spheres, the area is a granite mountain. The main peak, at 1,006.5 meters above sea level, is often shrouded in clouds and mist, earning it the nickname "Cloud Dwelling Mountain." Looking up from the parking lot, the mountain resembles a giant reclining lion. The central section runs north-south, with cliffs resembling a lion's back. The southern end, running east-west, rises slightly, resembling a roaring lion with its head raised and claws outstretched. The northern end, running northeast, resembles a lion's feet, claws extended. Locals therefore call Maixiayan the "Lion's Den."

Maixiayan is not only beautiful but also the birthplace of the 108th Regiment of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. In October 1930, Comrade Deng Zihui arrived here and formed the 108th Regiment, igniting the flames of armed struggle in Xianyou. From then on, the red flag of revolution flew high above Maixiayan. Maixiayan was designated a "Youth Moral Education Base" by the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League and one of the "First Patriotic Education Bases" by the Putian Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. The county party committee and government are now building a revolutionary memorial hall for the 108th Regiment at Maixiayan, immortalizing the revolutionary legacy of the regiment.
