Shipeng Mountain Scenic Area, a National 3A-level scenic spot, is renowned as a travel destination for Song Dynasty writers Shi Manqing and Su Dongpo. It is named after a natural stone shed on the mountain. According to the "Haizhou Prefecture Chronicles of the Jiaqing Period of the Qing Dynasty," "The mountain has a huge rock that presses down on the rock like a shed, hence the name. It is also known as Wanhua Rock and Jinyan Mountain."
The mountain is covered in bizarre rocks, such as Buddha's Hand Rock, a solitary leaping toad, and a rhinoceros fighting an elephant, all of which are lifelike and vivid. In addition to existing scenic spots and historical sites such as the Han Dynasty Mi Zhu Tomb, the Song Dynasty Shi Manqing Study, the Ming Dynasty Zhang Gong Qu Si Monument, and the Qing Dynasty Jinyan Stele Forest, the scenic area has recently invested millions of yuan in new attractions such as the Rainbow Bridge, Jiaohu Pavilion, Flower Path, and Stone Shed Villa.
A stone shed stands on the summit, inscribed with the four large characters "High Conduct and Pure Breeze." These were penned by Wang Tong, then the governor of Haizhou, in praise of Shi Manqing's character. Legend has it that Shi Manqing often read, played the qin, and feasted here, leading later generations to carve the six large characters "Shi Manqing's Study" into the stone wall. These characters, imbued with a sense of ancient charm, are deeply ingrained in the stone. Shipeng Mountain has become renowned for its beauty, attracting visitors from all over. Located on the outskirts of the city, this scenic spot boasts abundant resources and is a shining pearl among Haizhou's "Three Mountains, One Stream, and One Ancient City."
