The Lianyungang Museum, established in May 1973, is a comprehensive local museum housing over 10,000 cultural relics. The new building, completed and opened to the public in July 2006, is located at 68 Chaoyang East Road, Haizhou District, across from the municipal government and adjacent to the Municipal Culture and Art Center and the Municipal Revolutionary Memorial Hall. With an investment of over 60 million yuan, the new building occupies 45 mu (approximately 16,000 square meters) and boasts a floor area of 13,600 square meters. The museum showcases the rich history and culture of Lianyungang, stretching from the Paleolithic Age to the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Lianyungang Museum has been designated a "Jiangsu Province Patriotism Education Base," a "Jiangsu Province School Moral Education Base," and a "Jiangsu Province Science Popularization Education Base." It has also been repeatedly recognized as a Municipal Civilized Unit and a Municipal Civilized Service Demonstration Window. The museum currently has 43 employees, including 8 with senior professional titles and 12 with intermediate professional titles. The museum comprises several departments, including the Exhibition Department, the Preservation Department, the Archaeology Department, the Education Department, the Office, and the Security Department.
Existing exhibitions include "The Light of Civilization Shines on Lianyun: Exhibition of Fine Historical Relics," "Yan Han's Art Exhibition," "A Mystery Through the Ages: Ling Huiping," "Journey to the West Cultural Art Exhibition," "Love for Lei Feng Cars: Exhibition of Outstanding Deeds at Jiangsu Xinpu Bus Terminal," and "Forest of Steles Landscape Exhibition." Each exhibition boasts rich content, a clear structure, prominent focus, and distinct local characteristics. Furthermore, the Municipal Museum will soon launch special exhibitions highlighting local history and culture, such as "Relics of History: Bamboo Slips from the Han Tomb of Yinwan in Donghai" and "Relics of Han Style: Exhibition of Fine Han Terracotta Warriors."
The temperate monsoon climate, the ruggedness of prehistoric times, the solemnity of the Shang and Zhou dynasties, the prosperity of the Han and Tang dynasties, and the exquisiteness of the Ming and Qing dynasties are all fully displayed here. Wandering here feels like traveling through time and encountering a civilization that existed thousands of years ago, leaving you reluctant to leave. It's a great place to visit in all four seasons.
