Shuoxiang Lake, located in Guannan County, Jiangsu Province, is renowned for its long history, beautiful scenery, lake seafood, and splendid culture. Anciently known as Dahu and Shuohuo Lake, Shuoxiang Lake lies 120 li northwest of Lianshui, 40 li wide from east to west and 80 li long from north to south. It stretches from Xin'an Town in the east to Zhangdian in the north, Huidun in the south, and Machangdang in the west, covering an area of over 4,550 hectares, with Shuyang, Andong, and Haizhou each occupying one-third. Shuoxiang Lake receives water from rivers in Hai, Shu, and Su. The Shuoxiang Lake Ecological and Cultural Project, located in the southwest of Guannan County, relies on the city's backup water source. It is a public welfare project scientifically planned and constructed by the Guannan County Party Committee and County Government from a strategic perspective and with a holistic approach to development.
The lake area's geography transitions from north to south, with the sea to the east, where the Haihe River converges, creating a sea-lake fusion. The area enjoys abundant rainfall, vibrant clouds, diverse biological resources, and a wealth of local specialties. Since ancient times, it has been a land of abundant natural resources and outstanding people. Drainage channels and streams abound, gurgling watercourses abound, grasses flourish, reeds spread across the lake, water lilies fill the lake, shrimps gather in abundance, fish grow large and crabs grow fat, wild ducks flock, fishing boats sing in the evening, ancient trees tower, flowers and fruits waft in the air, and birds sing and birds dance. The lake area aims to protect and enhance its unique regional ecology and its magical and beautiful scenery, as well as its unique natural resources for lake seafood production. This project showcases the rich historical and cultural heritage of "the sea transforms into mulberry fields, the legendary Shuoxiang Lake," and promotes the development of distinctive lake seafood aquaculture. This includes sculptures of fishing girls, murals of lake seafood production techniques, and inscriptions of famous poems, historical records, and geological surveys.
Shuoxiang Lake has a warm, humid monsoon climate. In spring, cherry blossoms are in full bloom and tourists flock to it. In summer, green trees are lush and shady, and the pond is full of lotus flowers. In autumn, everything is golden and leaves fall back to their roots. In winter, it is bleak, cold, and covered with snow. It is beautiful and suitable for travel in all seasons.
Local residents go to the lake for walks, photos, and fishing. In March, you can go to the lake to enjoy the peach and cherry blossoms.
