Bourdain Forest Park, an ecological scenic area within the Jigongshan National Nature Reserve, is named after the forest farm established here in 1918 by British forester Bourdain, Chinese forester Han An, and General Feng Yuxiang.
Mr. Bourdain made outstanding contributions to China's forestry, especially in 1917 when he successfully introduced North American bald cypress to Xinyang City, forming the current lush bald cypress forest.
The park is located in the transition zone from the subtropical to the warm temperate zone. It has abundant rainfall, fertile soil, mild climate, excellent forest ecology, and a variety of wild animals and plants. It is a rare "gene bank" of animal and plant species. Many rare and endangered animals and plants in the mountains and forests are listed as national and provincial protected areas. It is known as the "treasure bowl of nature".
The climate is transitioning from subtropical monsoon climate to warm temperate climate; summer is the best time for tourism, when the mountains are covered with green trees and become a summer resort.
