Ziyang Palace is located in the Meiling Scenic Area. Built by locals to commemorate Deng Yu, the temple offers a refreshing breeze during the day, creating a refreshing atmosphere reminiscent of a fairyland.
The temple is constructed entirely of granite, with towering stone buildings and magnificent architecture. The characters "Zi Yang Palace" are engraved in the center of the front beam. Inside, a stone statue of Deng Yu is enshrined. A couplet is inscribed on the stone pillars on either side: "A single path leads to the North Pole, a ten-thousand-year wonderland guards the Western Hills." Beneath the stone chamber are Deng Xian Cave, the tomb of Deng Zhenjun, and a stone chamber where he lived.
Dengxian Cave is a small rock cave with the characters "Deng Zhenjun" carved into its walls. Deng Zhenjun's tomb is small, with a stone pagoda over a meter high behind it. At the bottom is a living stone chamber, containing a stone statue of Deng Yu and a stone trough similar to a washbasin. Legend has it that this was Deng Yu's living room, hence the name "Deng Zhenjun Stone Chamber."
According to legend, in 25 AD, after assisting Liu Xiu (Emperor Guangwu of the Han Dynasty) in unifying China and ascending the throne, Deng Yu was granted the title of Marquis of Gaomi. Disillusioned with worldly affairs, he resigned from office and retired to the mountains, cultivating Taoism and mastering magical skills. Traveling extensively, he arrived at the West Mountain of Hongzhou, where he witnessed the people fleeing their homes and seeking a livelihood elsewhere. He discovered that a thousand-year-old centipede, with a red head and a black body, eight feet long, roamed the rocky mountains and forests. During hot and humid weather, it emerged from its cave to release poison, bringing torrential rains and spreading its venom. The local people, unable to survive, were forced to flee. Seeing this, Deng Yu resolved to eradicate the evil spirit and tried to persuade it to leave, but the centipede refused. He fought with Deng Yu in the mountains for forty-nine days, finally capturing it and chaining it to the rocky base with a wrist-thick iron chain.
The subtropical monsoon climate makes it suitable for traveling and enjoying the beautiful scenery all year round.
