Fang Zhimin, a native of Yiyang County, Jiangxi Province, was born in 1900. He served successively as county party secretary, special committee secretary, provincial party secretary, military district commander, political commissar of the 10th Red Army, chairman of the Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi Soviet Government, member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Chinese Soviet Republic, and member of the Central Committee of the Party. In 1934, the 7th and 10th Red Army Corps were combined to form the advance force heading north to resist the Japanese aggression, with Fang Zhimin serving as commander-in-chief.
