The Luonan Confucian Temple, built in 1370 during the third year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty, is located on the west side of Zhongjie Street in Luonan County. Covering an area of 3,115 square meters, it is a longitudinally oriented ancient architectural complex divided into three courtyards: front, middle, and back. The Lingxing Gate serves as its archway. Known as the "First Confucian Temple in Southern Shaanxi," the temple boasts high architectural and cultural value, and is a key cultural relic protection site in Shaanxi Province.
According to the prefecture and county annals, the Luonan Confucian Temple was built in the third year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1370 AD), 14 years before the construction of the Xi'an Bell Tower. It now covers an area of 3,115 square meters and is the most well-preserved ancient architectural complex along the longitudinal axis in the urban area. In 1983, it was designated a provincial-level key cultural relic protection site by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. For over six centuries, it has been the center of the county's politics, culture, education, public affairs, and activities. It currently houses the county museum, which houses over 3,400 precious cultural relics.
Luonan Confucian Temple, also known as the Confucius Temple, is one of the most complete ancient architectural complexes in Northwest China. Its grandeur and ancient charm are evident in the main hall and podium buildings, which feature carved beams and painted rafters, and the vibrant brilliance of dragons and phoenixes. Illuminated by the warm sunlight, the entire structure shimmers with vibrant colors and a magnificent brilliance.
The warm temperate semi-humid monsoon climate features four distinct seasons, with rain and heat occurring in the same season, and distinct dry and wet seasons in the summer and winter. Avoid the cold winter and travel in spring, summer, and autumn.
The entire Confucian Temple is a seamless architectural entity, encompassing three courtyards within the palace walls: the rear, middle, and front. In the center of the rear courtyard lies the Dacheng Hall, with a moon platform in front of it, flanked by seven east and west wings. In the center of the middle courtyard lies the Chaomen (Court Gate), with three rooms flanked by moon gates. In the center is the Pan Pond, surmounted by a two-arch stone bridge flanked by railings. To the east lie the Shrine of Famous Officials and the Zunjing Pavilion; to the west are the Shrine of Local Worthies and the Shrine of Loyalty. In the center of the front courtyard lies a wooden archway known as the "Chanxing Gate." To the east lies the "Qifeng Gate," also known as the "Eastern Ceremony Gate," and to the west lies the "Tengwen Gate," also known as the "Western Ceremony Gate."
The Confucian Temple is a magnificent building, with flower-patterned ridges and eaves, and dragons and phoenixes dancing in the wind. Inside, it is resplendent with painted buildings and carved beams. Its outlines are elegant and its atmosphere is majestic. Its main buildings are the Dacheng Hall and the Shuangxing Gate.
