Need Itinerary Ideas

Hello, I need some help in getting an itinerary together. I know two parts of what I am going to do for two nights.

The Lion King on October 18th

Rickey Smiley on October 19th

I need ideas for Thursday and the afternoons...

It sounds like you have a great trip planned already with The Lion King and Rickey Smiley lined up! For your Thursday and afternoon plans, I’d suggest a mix of sightseeing, dining, and activities that complement your evenings. Here are some ideas to help you build out your itinerary:

Thursday Morning (Before Your Show in the Evening):

  • Visit the Georgia Aquarium: One of the largest aquariums in the world, the Georgia Aquarium offers an immersive experience with everything from whale sharks to beluga whales. It’s close to downtown, so it’s easy to fit in before your evening show.
  • Walk Around Piedmont Park: If you’re looking for something more laid-back, Piedmont Park offers lovely walking paths, gardens, and scenic views of the Atlanta skyline. It’s a great way to relax and get a feel for the local vibe.
  • Explore the Atlanta Botanical Garden: If you enjoy nature and gardens, this is a beautiful place to wander. It’s located near Piedmont Park and features stunning floral displays, nature trails, and seasonal exhibits.

Thursday Afternoon (Before The Lion King):

  • Lunch at The Varsity: A classic Atlanta spot, The Varsity serves up iconic fast food like chili dogs, fries, and milkshakes. It’s a fun and casual place to stop for lunch before heading to the theater.
  • Explore the Atlanta BeltLine: The BeltLine is a network of parks, trails, and art installations that stretches through Atlanta. You can walk, rent bikes, or even take a trolley tour to explore the area. It’s a great way to experience local art, food, and the city’s vibe.
  • Check Out the High Museum of Art: If you have a love for art, the High Museum is a great stop. They have a diverse collection of art, from classic to contemporary pieces. It’s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

Friday Morning (Before Rickey Smiley's Show):

  • Visit the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park: This park includes several important sites, such as Dr. King’s childhood home, the Ebenezer Baptist Church where he preached, and the King Center. It’s an educational and moving experience.
  • Tour the Atlanta History Center: The History Center is a wonderful way to learn about Atlanta’s history, from the Civil War to the 1996 Olympics. The center also has beautiful gardens and historic homes to explore.
  • Take a Walking Tour of Downtown Atlanta: There are many companies offering walking tours that will give you an insight into the city’s history, architecture, and culture. This can be a fun and active way to get to know Atlanta better.

Friday Afternoon (Before the Show):

  • Lunch in Midtown or Buckhead: Midtown offers great restaurants like The Flying Biscuit Cafe (for a Southern breakfast or brunch) or Tapas & Vino for some small plates. Buckhead is home to upscale dining options like The Capital Grille or even fun local spots like Farm Burger.
  • Shopping at Ponce City Market or Lenox Square: If you enjoy shopping, Ponce City Market is a great spot for local shops, restaurants, and rooftop views. Lenox Square, located in Buckhead, is a high-end shopping mall with all the major designer brands.
  • Relax at a Spa or Lounge: After a busy day of sightseeing, treat yourself to some relaxation. Many hotels in Atlanta have full-service spas or you can book a massage at a local wellness center. Alternatively, check out some cool lounges like the SkyLounge for rooftop views while you unwind.

Additional Tips:

  • If you’re staying near the downtown area, everything is relatively close to each other, so you can easily walk or take a short drive between your activities.
  • Make sure to check the schedule for any special events or local festivals happening during your visit—Atlanta is known for its lively events and festivals year-round!

With these activities in mind, you’ll have a well-rounded and fun itinerary that balances relaxation, sightseeing, and delicious food! Enjoy your time in Atlanta!
