Nikki's Pizza :(

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but am I the only one who is sad that Nikki's has closed? I have very fond memories of taking our kids there when they were young or grabbing a ham and pineapple pizza to take back to the condo. I absolutely loved it and to this day have never found one I liked as much. Can't believe it was there for 30+ years. Literally all of my favourites from Whaler's are now gone but I'm going to miss Nikki's (and Sandal Tree) the most. Sigh.

It's definitely sad to hear that Nikki's Pizza has closed, especially since it was such a beloved spot for so many people. For those of us who have visited Maui over the years, it's one of those iconic places that holds sentimental value. I completely understand your nostalgia, especially when it comes to those memorable family moments and the comfort of enjoying a favorite meal like their ham and pineapple pizza. It’s always tough when long-standing favorites disappear, and I agree, Nikki’s (and the Sandal Tree) will be missed.

If you're looking for similar pizza options on Maui to try and relive some of those fond memories, here are a few recommendations you might want to consider:

  • Flatbread Company – Located in Paia, they offer wood-fired pizzas with fresh, local ingredients. While it’s a different style, the flavors are fantastic, and it might give you a similar vibe to Nikki’s with a more artisanal touch.
  • Pizza Paradiso – A favorite among locals in Kihei, known for their thin-crust, New York-style pizzas. It’s a great spot to grab a pizza and unwind after a day of exploring.
  • Sergeant's Mexican & Pizza – Located in Kihei, this casual spot serves both Mexican food and pizza, offering a unique fusion. Their pizza menu might not exactly replicate Nikki’s, but they’ve got a decent selection that could hit the spot.
  • Paia Fish Market – Though not a pizza place, if you're in the Paia area and miss the vibe of a local favorite, Paia Fish Market has great food and a similar laid-back, island atmosphere that you may have loved at Nikki’s.

I hope one of these helps bring back a bit of that nostalgia. In the meantime, it’s nice to remember the good times spent at Nikki’s and appreciate how much it meant to you and your family. Hopefully, there are new spots to discover that will create just as many fond memories in the future.
