Borobudur

Borobudur, the magnificent Buddhist temple, is the largest Buddhist temple in the world and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. Built during the 8th–9th centuries by the Shailendra dynasty, it features Gupta-style architecture blended with traditional Javanese art. The design is a three-dimensional mandala reflecting Buddhist cosmology, divided into three symbolic levels: the base (Kamadhatu – the realm of desire), the middle (Rupadhatu – the realm of form), and the top (Arupadhatu – the formless realm). The pinnacle is the central stupa surrounded by smaller stupas. This site is considered a must-visit highlight when traveling to Indonesia.
