Daci Temple: A Grand Temple in the Heart of the City

Daci Temple is a historic Buddhist temple located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. It was founded between the 3rd and 4th centuries and flourished during the Wei and Jin dynasties. The temple reached its peak during the Tang and Song dynasties, and Emperor Xuanzong of Tang bestowed its name in his own handwriting. It was renowned as the largest temple in the Shu region at that time.
The temple is famous for its traditional wooden architecture and exquisite murals, earning it the praise of being 'exquisite.' Additionally, it was here that the monk Xuanzang studied Buddhism and prepared for his journey to the Western Regions, making it a central hub for Buddhist exchange in East Asia. It is indeed a product of Chengdu's rich history.
