Wat Phra That Doi Suthep: A Spiritual Center for the Lanna People

🏖️ Environment/Facilities: Located on Doi Suthep mountain, the temple is surrounded by lush greenery and offers stunning views. It is the closest viewpoint to Chiang Mai city, where you can even see the Chiang Mai Airport.
💞 Reasons to Recommend: This temple has a long history, dating back to 1927 when the sacred relics were enshrined on the mountain peak. Subsequently, a chedi was built to house the relics, along with the construction of the ordination hall, Naga staircase, and the pathway leading to the temple. These efforts were led by monks and local rulers over various eras. In 2004, the Fine Arts Department undertook a major restoration, including improvements to the chedi courtyard, which serves as a beautiful viewpoint of Chiang Mai city. The restoration took six years to complete. Visitors can ascend via the Naga staircase or use a convenient cable car. Additionally, for those born in the Year of the Goat, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is considered their zodiac temple.
💰 Average Cost per Person: Free entry for Thai nationals. Cable car service costs 30 THB per person for a round trip.
🕰️ Operating Hours: Open daily from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
🗓️ Travel Planning: From Chiang Mai city, you can take a red songthaew (shared taxi) either as a private hire or per person fare, available for one-way or round trips. Driving to the temple is also convenient.
📍 Address: Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Doi Suthep, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province.
