Fujian Tulou

Hundreds of years ago, apartments... Toru is a multi-family housing style that is like a fortress for the Hakka people (Han people who migrated to the coast to escape the war) and is widely spread throughout Fujian Province, China.
Among them, Jeollagang Toru became famous after being mistaken for a missile base by an American satellite.
If you go and see it in person, you will immediately understand why such a misunderstanding occurred. ^^
The first floor of Toru is mostly occupied by shops,
and the 2nd and 3rd floors that were used as warehouses in the past have been renovated and can be used for lodging.
The interesting fact is that there is no bathroom inside the Toru...
So you have to use the bathrooms that are separately provided outside to shower or relieve yourself.
Although it is inconvenient, staying in a Toru is a very
special experience. If you happen to visit Xiamen or Fujian Province in China,
I recommend you remember this place and stay there at least once.
