Tokyo's Small Island - Enoshima

Enoshima is a very small island located close to Kamakura. So, I visited Kamakura and then went to Enoshima on the same day.

In Enoshima, you must visit Enoshima Shrine. Enoshima Shrine consists of three shrines: Hetsunomiya, Nakatsunomiya, and Okutsunomiya. The shrine enshrines three sister goddesses and also houses the Eight-Armed Benzaiten and Myoon Benzaiten, which are considered two of Japan's three great Benzaiten deities.

To visit these three shrines⛩️, you need to walk up a small hill. If you get too tired and want to save some energy, it is recommended to pay for the Enoshima Escalator.

Additionally, from the last weekend of November to late February, there are illumination events at Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden, Enoshima Sea Candle, Enoshima Iwaya, and Enoshima Shrine. This is one of the three major illumination events in the Kanto region and is recognized as an illumination heritage site. So, you can plan to visit Enoshima in the evening during this period!
