Travelogue of Ganzhou: The Song Dynasty City Wall - A Poetic and Lively Journey Through a Millennium

Ganzhou, an ancient city embraced by three rivers, was once one of the 36 renowned cities of the Song Dynasty. Today, it quietly nestles in southern Jiangxi.

Upon arriving in Ganzhou, I was immediately captivated by its dual charm—on one hand, the poetic elegance of a thousand years, as depicted by Xin Qiji in his verse "Below the Yugu Tower, the clear river flows," and on the other, the lively daily scenes of fishermen drying fish by the floating bridge near Jianchun Gate.

When leaving Ganzhou, I stood by the Gong River, gazing back at this ancient city, and suddenly understood why literary giants like Su Dongpo and Xin Qiji left so many poems here. The charm of Ganzhou lies not only in its well-preserved Song Dynasty relics but also in its unique blend of ancient and modern—where the poetic aura of Yugu Tower coexists harmoniously with the bustling life by the floating bridge, and the historical weight of the ancient city walls complements the modern vibrancy of the Song Dynasty Night Market. This "living Jiangnan Song City" weaves a dreamlike journey through a millennium for every visitor with its poetry and liveliness.
