A street of European-style historical buildings

Since Shamian Island was once a settlement for foreigners and the location of many foreign embassies in Guangzhou, there are more than a dozen European-style historical buildings on both sides of the island's Shamian Street. Most of them were built from the 19th century to the early 20th century and are preserved in their original good condition. These buildings were once consulates, government agencies and bank corporate headquarters. Some have been revitalized for other purposes. Many unique restaurants and cafes are opened in these historical buildings. Walking along the tree-lined Shamian Street is like traveling through a historical atmosphere. It is not difficult to see photography enthusiasts using cameras to record these century-old buildings. This street is also a popular check-in spot for tourists.
