A famous historical and cultural heritage conservation area in Guangzhou!!!

Shamian Island is located in Guangzhou's Liwan District.
The French and British built the Shamian East Bridge and Shamian West Bridge in 1859 and 1861, respectively. These bridges, also known as the "French Bridge" and the "English Bridge," were built by France and Britain. In 1861, the Governor-General of Guangdong and Guangxi, Lao Chongguang, signed the Shamian Lease Agreement with Britain and France. Shamian thus became a British and French concession, one of the earliest foreign concessions in China. During the concession period, Shamian was off-limits to Chinese citizens, becoming a gathering place for foreign merchants and officials, which in turn promoted Guangzhou's urbanization.

Today, the Shamian architectural complex is not only a national key cultural heritage conservation area, but also one of Guangzhou's first batch of historical and cultural conservation areas. It is also the only concession architectural complex designated as a protected area.

Setting foot on Shamian Island is like being transported to Europe in a flash, allowing you to experience the European experience without leaving the country. The island boasts many beautiful historical buildings, statues, pavilions, flower gardens, and fountains, all of which are stunning and photogenic. It's also home to a variety of unique shops and a Starbucks. The famous White Swan Hotel is also located here. This is a major tourist attraction in Guangzhou and a must-see free photo spot.
