With frequent heavy rains and the chikungunya outbreak lately, I haven’t dared to venture outdoors much.
Luckily, this exhibition lets me 【enjoy nature in air-conditioned comfort】 under a roof!

🎋Chinese art history has seen many artistic groups formed by families or close friends, and in contemporary Lingnan painting circles, the Fang family stands out as one such 【artistic dynasty】. Three generations of the family have each developed their own unique styles, showcasing their individual artistic paths.
🎋This exhibition features works by eight members of the Fang family—Fang Zepu, Fang Chuxiong, Lin Shuran, Fang Chuqiao, Fang Chujuan, Fang Xiang, Fang Lu, and Ai Rui. While admiring their paintings, visitors can also sense the 【shifts in society and evolving aesthetics】.
👀Viewing Tips:
🎨The curator has 【"moved" the Fang family’s living room into the gallery】. With familiar rosewood furniture to Cantonese locals, calligraphy by elders, paintings by younger generations, and family portraits, visitors instantly feel like 【guests in the artists’ home】!
🎨Titled *Everything in Its Right Place*, the exhibition highlights the Fang family’s 【harmonious yet diverse artistic styles】—some inherit traditional landscape techniques to depict majestic scenery, others pioneer new approaches to bird-and-flower paintings, while some blend ink art with contemporary themes to capture the times… Visitors can see how ink painting "plays" in different ways across three generations.
🎨Perhaps due to my recent lack of outdoor excursions, the bird-and-flower and animal-themed works here gave me a long-missed 【sense of reconnecting with nature】. I particularly loved Lin Shuran’s pieces—her poetic lines and flowing brushstrokes 【feel like a breath of fresh air】! Even in an era where everyone can snap photos with their phones, the visual experience of hand-painted bird-and-flower art remains irreplaceable.
🎨【The exhibition catalog is beautifully printed】—it’s practically a mini art book!
