Daishoin Temple, nestled at the foot of Miyajima, is a renowned Shingon Buddhist temple located deep within Itsukushima Shrine. Said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi, this historic temple is also known as the starting point for climbing Mount Misen. The grounds are lined with numerous Buddhist statues and Jizo statues, and the tranquil atmosphere is a place of profound peace. ⛩️🍃
When you actually visit, the scenery changes with each staircase, and the Buddhist statues and halls appear one after another—it's fun, almost like a "temple theme park." The Henjo Cave, in particular, is modeled after one of the 88 sacred sites of Shikoku, and is enveloped in a mystical atmosphere.
From the temple grounds, you can also see the Seto Inland Sea, and the space where nature and faith blend is soothing. Recommended for both couples' strolls and solo travelers' meditation. 🧘♂️
Access is approximately a 20-minute walk from Miyajima Pier. It's also within walking distance of Itsukushima Shrine, making it a popular route to visit both sites.
Why not take a trip to Daishoin Temple, surrounded by silence and prayer, to clear your mind?
