We had dinner at Takara, a tiny, family-run tempura restaurant tucked away in the heart of Hiroshima. The moment we stepped inside, we felt like we had entered a local’s hidden kitchen—just a few seats at the counter and a couple of tatami tables, giving it a truly intimate and traditional feel.
This place is all about simplicity and quality. The tempura was freshly fried in front of us—light, crispy, and not oily at all. We ordered a selection that included prawns, seasonal vegetables, and local oysters, and each bite was full of flavor and perfectly executed. The seafood was fresh, and the batter was delicate yet satisfying.
There’s no fancy decor or modern gimmicks here—just a warm, humble space where you feel like a guest in someone’s home. The owners, likely a husband-and-wife team, worked quietly and efficiently behind the counter, and though English wasn’t spoken much, communication was easy through the menu and some friendly gestures.
It’s the kind of place where the food speaks for itself. If you’re looking for an authentic and heartwarming Japanese dining experience, Takara is an absolute gem worth discovering in Hiroshima.
