Hiroshima was the city where I could feel the deepest emotions in Japan. Although the scars of war still remain, I was able to encounter a warm message of hope for peace within it.
First, I visited the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome. The Atomic Bomb Dome, which remains at the epicenter of the explosion, silently conveyed the tragedy of war, and at the Peace Memorial Museum, I was able to realize the preciousness of peace once again through vivid records and relics from that time. The numerous paper cranes and peace bells placed throughout the park symbolized hope and touched my heart.
After that, I took a boat to Miyajima. The red torii of Itsukushima Shrine, which seemed to float on the sea, was truly spectacular. The scenery was completely different depending on the high and low tides, allowing me to experience the charm twice, and the deer freely walking around the shrine added to the quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
Hiroshima was also a city of gourmet food. The Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, baked in layers, was soft and filling, and the fresh Hiroshima oyster dish was light and savory, a delicacy you must try.
Finally, I toured Hiroshima Castle. Although it was a restored building after the war, it gave off a calming feeling when combined with the surrounding quiet scenery, and the exhibits inside the castle allowed me to learn about Hiroshima's other history and culture.
Hiroshima is a city that remembers the wounds of the past while also talking about peace, and it was a travel destination where you could enjoy nature, tradition, and gourmet food. It was a meaningful trip that went beyond sightseeing and stayed in my heart for a long time.
