Lamma Island is well known as the hometown of actor Chow Yun-fat, but it is also a great place to start your trekking journey in Hong Kong.
You can enjoy the open sea and the forest path gently swaying in the wind by entering Yung Shue Wan Port and walking along the paved road to Sok Kwu Wan Port.
After passing the cute shops that give you a glimpse of Lamma Island’s daily life from the port,
you will arrive at Hong Shing Ye Beach.
Please make sure to touch the sand on the beach.
The feeling of it flowing softly like silk from your fingertips will make you excited even before you start your trekking journey.
The highlight of Lamma Island trekking starts from the observation deck.
As you walk along the beautifully quiet and well-maintained mountain path,
you will soon come across a fishing village with colorful fishing boats floating like a painting. The sight of the village getting closer and closer as you go down
gives you a refreshing joy that you have safely completed the trek.
When you return from the quiet Lamma Island to the crowds of Hong Kong Island,
you can feel the contrasting charms of Hong Kong's nature and the city more vividly.
🌳 How to get there
: Take the ferry to Yong Shu Wan from Pier 4 of Central Passenger Terminal.
After arriving, go to Hong Shing Ye Beach - Lamma Island Lookout - Sok Kwu Wan Pier in that order.
🌻 Fare (round trip adult): (Mon-Sat) $49.6
(Sun, public holidays) $69.5
⚘ Tip
: The reason why it is better to start from Yong Shu Wan Pier
is because the ferries run more frequently than Sok Kwu Wan Pier and the slope of the uphill path is gentler.
In particular, the view of Sok Kwu Wan Pier seen from the downhill path
is the most beautiful and peaceful scenery of the Lamma Island trekking course.
If you don't take the 12:40 boat when returning to Central Passenger Terminal from Sok Kwu Wan,
the next boat is about 2 hours later (14:35)
If you are a first-time traveler, it is better to go early in the morning and take one of the 11:45 or 12:40 boats.
