Ma Wan 1868 is located on Ma Wan Island, between Lantau Island and Tsing Yi. It is a new landmark for in-depth travel in Hong Kong and part of the second phase of Ma Wan Park, gradually opening by the end of 2024. This nearly 500,000-square-foot waterfront area overlooks the Kap Shui Mun Bridge and combines conservation, cultural creativity, and tourism. Old village houses have been revitalized into colorful cottages, reminiscent of Italy’s Cinque Terre, full of photo-worthy charm. Named after the establishment of the Qing Dynasty Customs in 1868, Ma Wan 1868 preserves historic sites such as the Tin Hau Temple and the Kowloon Customs Stone Tablet, telling the story of the Maritime Silk Road.
The “Farm the City” urban farm in the area offers parent-child ecological experiences and collaborates with schools to promote food cycle education; the “Little Island Hill” glamping site is located on the hilltop, equipped with comfortable tents, and the nighttime stargazing tours are captivating. Workshops inside the colorful cottages allow travelers to make their own pottery or metal accessories, while artistic murals showcase the stories of Ma Wan. Seaside restaurants like The Shack serve Mediterranean flavors, allowing guests to enjoy the sunset while dining. Ma Wan 1868 weaves together art, nature, and history, taking travelers away from the city’s hustle and bustle to deeply experience Hong Kong’s island slow-living culture.
