Today I visited "Ma Wan 1868" ☀️
Ma Wan 1868 blends art, heritage, nature, dining, and history. Transformed from old village houses, each unit features different color designs, giving a vibe like Hong Kong’s version of the "Italian Cinque Terre" and "Notting Hill in London." Some units have large, distinctive colorful murals. It creates a culturally and artistically rich island community.
Ma Wan is located between Lantau Island and Tsing Yi, including the "Noah’s Ark Theme Park," "Solar Tower," and the resort "Solar Village." The new tourist landmark "Ma Wan 1868" builds a cultural and artistic island art community, perfectly piecing together a vibrant Ma Wan. Coming from the city to this refreshing little island, you can enjoy clean air and a peaceful environment, slow down, and recharge your body and mind.
The "1868" in the name comes from the historical event when the Qing government established a customs station in Ma Wan in 1868 to ensure navigation safety.
☆ The units have different themes with conservation concepts, handicrafts, galleries, tourism, art, experiential activities, and retail. The seaview restaurant is also a great spot for a break and dining ☕️.
☆ The exhibition hall currently features the popular character "Gloomie the Cheek Resting Cat" 🐱 by local artist LeonLollipop—cat lovers must not miss it 📸.
☆ The century-old world heritage building "Tin Hau Ancient Temple" is the earliest temple built on Ma Wan Island. The renovated temple maintains the traditional two-hall architectural style, with a green glazed tile roof, and the plaque still reads "Tin Hau Ancient Temple."
It’s very convenient to get here from the city. You can slow down, sit in the restaurant enjoying the natural scenery, and feel the cultural atmosphere on the island.
Recommended because it’s perfect for families and pets for traveling in Hong Kong.
