Hidden Island in Hong Kong: Wong Mau Chau

On a Sunday morning, we chartered a small boat from Sai Kung Pier, heading towards Wong Mau Chau under the morning light. This uninhabited island, shaped like a sea turtle, gradually became clear against the blue sea. As the boat approached, the crystal-clear water revealed coral reefs and tropical fish swimming below.

We put on our snorkeling gear and jumped into the water, instantly surrounded by colorful fish. Butterflyfish darted among the corals, and sea urchins rested quietly on the rocks. In the afternoon, we paddled around the island on stand-up paddleboards, seeing our reflections overlap with the underwater world on the glass-like sea surface.

🚢Transportation
- Boat ride: About 20 minutes from Wong Shek Pier
- Must bring: Snorkeling gear, non-slip shoes, plenty of drinking water
- Note: No supplies on the island, all trash must be taken away

As the sunset dyed the rocks golden, we reluctantly left this last pure land of Hong Kong. The beauty of Wong Mau Chau lies in its isolation from the world and its untouched wild charm.
