If you're looking for a hike in Korea that combines spiritual calm with a serious leg workout, Ulsanbawi in Seoraksan National Park is a must. This iconic trail takes you through misty forest paths, sacred temples, and up to one of the most stunning panoramic viewpoints in the country.

The trail begins near the park’s main entrance in Sokcho, where you’ll first pass Sinheungsa Temple and the imposing Great Unification Buddha—a peaceful start that sets the tone. As you walk deeper into the forest, the air grows crisp, and the sound of rushing streams accompanies your journey. Midway, you'll come across the famous Heundeulbawi, a large rock balanced in such a way that visitors try (and usually fail) to make it sway.

But the real challenge lies ahead: over 800 steep metal stairs wind their way up the sheer rock face leading to Ulsanbawi’s summit. It’s intense, especially the last kilometer, but if you pace yourself and take breaks, it’s absolutely doable. And the reward? An unforgettable view of rugged mountain ridges and the East Sea stretching beyond the horizon.

💰 Entrance fee: 3500₩

🌟 Tips: Start early in the morning, wear hiking shoes and bring tons of water
