Visit if the Jiayuguan Scenic area

The scenic area of Jiayuguan will take you back in through three main attractions: the First mound, the Fort and the Overhanging Great Wall.
The tickets combines the three areas. We decided to start with the Fort, but thinking back, we should have started with the wall to avoid the crowds and the heat. We decided to skip the first mound as it would have cost us some more money to go there and we weren't sure it would have been worth it.
The Fort: the main entrance is really well done and has a nice visitor center with a movie playing all day round explaining shortly the history of the Fort. You will then have to take the scenic bus to go to the Fort (they are shaped like a camel, which is so cute 🐫). It's free of charge. Once there, you will be free to roam around the Fort and explore. The temple inside offers nice murals with what seemed to be a story written under. There are a few food options, which is a nice touch. You can also ride a camel which looks so much fun. However, if you can, you should definitely come at night for the mapping show, it looked amazing! Of course, it has an extra cost, but from what we've seen, it's definitely worth it! Ride the bus back to the main entrance. Of you have time, you can go down before at the museum to learn more about the area. We then exited the area and went to the next place by taxi.
The Great Wall: your tour should definitely start there. It can get quite hot because of the sun, and let's be honest, the way up is not that easy. However, it is very rewarding and offer magnificent views. Lots of people put locks in the area to seal their love, and also create a heart shape with rocks on the mountain, it's really beautiful to see. If you are a bit adventurous and have good equipment, you can wander a bit farther in the mountain and enjoy the breathtaking view of this wonderful natural landscape.
We only stayed around three hours total, but if you go to the first mound, you might need another hours, so allow at least half a day to tour the area.
Once you're done, head back to town to enjoy some delicious local food 😋
