🏖️Overview
Koyasan is a mountain with an altitude of about 800m in Koyacho, Ito District, Wakayama Prefecture🍊, and Kongobu-ji Temple, located there, is the head temple of the Shingon sect. It was built by Kukai (Kobo Daishi) in the early Heian period, and many cultural assets and historical sites remain, and many monks👨🦲 still train there today. In 2004, it was registered as a World Heritage Site under the name "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range".
💞Reasons why we recommend it:
Get off at Gakubunji Station on the Nankai Electric Railway🚆 and start climbing🚶. We passed the historic Jizo statues and temple swastikas, and stopped at the remains of a wooden elementary school🏫. It's very quaint and a recommended place to have lunch🍙. After that, we crossed Gokuraku Bridge and continued climbing😅. And then we arrived. Within the temple grounds, there are many buildings that exude a sense of history in a tranquil atmosphere. We also enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the beautiful gardens. As expected, many foreign tourists visit the temple.
