Kenninji Temple, located in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, is the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto, founded by Eisai, who studied Zen in Song China, on land donated by Shogun Minamoto no Yoriie, and is the head temple of the Kenninji school of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism.
It is an old temple that is worth visiting at least once, with many attractions such as cultural assets such as the "Wind God and Thunder God" by Tawaraya Sotatsu and the sliding door paintings by Kaiho Yusho, as well as the "Dai Soryuzu" painting on the ceiling of the lecture hall, which covers the space of 108 tatami mats.
