When visiting Kyoto, Gion is a must-see. However, Gion is quite large and has many attractions. Today, I visited four of them.
Yasaka Shrine: Take bus 206 from Kyoto Hachijo Exit Station and get off at Gion. The shrine is right in front of you. It's a famous love shrine and a popular spot for tourists. The Important Cultural Property 'West Tower Gate' is striking with its red, green, and white colors. The National Treasure 'Main Hall' features a cypress bark roof covering both the main shrine and the worship hall, making it highly valuable for appreciation.
Maruyama Park: Adjacent to Yasaka Shrine, located at the foot of the Higashiyama Mountains, this is an ancient park built as a strolling garden following the hilly terrain. It is beloved by both residents and young people.
Otani Sobyo: Following the tourists inside, I found this place to be shaded by trees, with elegant temples and a serene atmosphere that felt very spiritual.
Chorakuji Temple: The long row of ancient lanterns and the long stone steps leading up to the temple give it a rustic charm.
