Ginkakuji Temple, also known as the Slver Castle, has two stories, black wooden main hall, but it has a simple and elegant charm. in addition, this building has influenced the style of modern Japanese houses. Near the Silver Castle Temple, there is a white pebbled courtyard modeled after the sea, and a sand cone shaped mound about two meters high called Kogetsudai, or Moon Viewing square. Behind the temple is a walkway up the hill, from which you can see the view of the temple and the city of Kyoto. It is a combination of Higashiyama culture and Zen culture. It is registered as a World Heritage site as a cultural property and an ancient historic Monument of Kyoto.
