Tenryuji Temple was built in 1345 and has a history of more than 600 years. It is listed as a World Heritage Site as a "Cultural Property of Ancient Capital Kyoto". It has experienced many fires and been repaired many times.
The first thing you see when you walk into Tenryuji Temple is the large screen with a statue of Bodhidharma standing in front of the entrance. It was painted by Seiko Hirata and symbolizes Bodhidharma in Zen Buddhism.
Tenryuji Temple is very vast. You can go around in a circle and go up to the low peak to look at the various buildings of Tenryuji Temple. The garden scenery is first-class and there are many kinds of flowers and plants. Many tourists sit on the promenade for a long time to enjoy the scenery.
