Gansu Provincial Museum / 2025

If you are wondering around in Lanzhou, I highly recommend to visit the famous Gansu Provincial museum. The museum is huge and the best part is: it is completely for free.

The museum is divided in 3 floors where they have different rooms for different exbitions. You can browse the history all the way from the dinosaurus ages into modern times.

The holy grail of the museum has to be Flying Horse of Gansu—a bronze statue from the Han Dynasty. It sits in a glass box which you can admire in 360 angle. This is a piece of history you shouldn't miss if you are in Lanzhou.

For a foreign tourist this is a really nice museum, since most of the stuff is translates in english!

How to Get There

The museum is in Lanzhou city, about 8 km from the railway station.

By metro: Take Line 1 to Xiguan or Qilihe Station—it’s a short walk.

By taxi or Didi (ride-hailing app): Around 20–30 RMB (€3–4).

Costs

Entrance: Free (bring your passport/ID to register). (There is a fee to enter the exbitiona on the first floor but the 2nd and 3rd floors are completely for free)

Transport: Metro costs only 2–4 RMB, taxi a bit more
