Wat Chiang Thong 𝐖𝐚𝐭 𝐗𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐠

Wat Xieng Thong 𝐖𝐚𝐭 𝐗𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐠 photogenic spot that is famous all over the world At 'Wat Xieng Thong', one of the gems of Lan Xang that is famous for ancient architecture, built during the reign of King Sai Setthathirat around 460 years ago, it survived a major fire, so it is known as the oldest sim (church) in the city. It has a softer roof curve than other sims, along with 17 golden gables and a beautifully carved wooden urn. With this beauty, it has become a model for many temples in Luang Prabang and Thailand, such as Wat Sirindhorn Wararam Phu Phrao in Ubon Ratchathani Province, Wat Wang Kham in Kalasin Province. A must-see spot is the back of the sim with small pieces of glass that have been assembled to form a large golden tree. Inside is the principal Buddha image, which is a Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya attitude. With the art of sculpting faces similar to the U Thong style that we are familiar with. The surrounding walls are decorated with gold patterns that tell the story of the life of the Buddha, the Jataka tales, and the legend of Luang Prabang. The lines are simple but rather graceful and attractive.
