Have a nice weekend everyone! Take a stroll along Macau’s Catholic World Heritage Sites today and explore the unique beauty of Macau’s cathedrals!
Guia Lighthouse
Climb up the steps of Songshan Mountain and step into the Guia Slope. The ancient stone slabs under your feet seem to tell stories of the past. Going forward, you will reach the highest church in Macau - the Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows, and the world-famous Guia Lighthouse. This lighthouse has a history of over 160 years and is the first lighthouse on the Chinese coastline. Standing here, you can overlook the panoramic view of Macau and feel the weight of history.
Transportation:
• Cable car: Navigate to Erlonghou Park. The cable car ticket office is at the entrance of the park. A round-trip ticket is only 3 Macau patacas. Take the world's shortest sightseeing cable car directly to the top of Guia Mountain. You can enjoy the scenery of Guia Mountain in the cable car. After getting off the car, you can walk to the lighthouse in about 10 minutes. The cable car is open from 8am to 6pm and is closed on Mondays.
• Bus: Take bus No. 2, 6, 9, 9A, 12, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, 28C, or 32, get off at the corresponding stop, and then walk according to the signs. If you are departing from Macau Portas do Sol Terminal, you can take bus No. 18 or No. 25 and get off at Erlonghou Park Station.
• Taxi: Take a taxi directly, which is convenient and fast, but the fare is relatively high. It is suitable for multiple people to share the cost.
Our Lady of the Snows Chapel
Standing majestically on the top of Songshan Mountain, it is built of stone and looks natural. In 2005, the Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows was listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site. The church houses countless murals depicting biblical stories and characters, some of which date back to the early 17th century. In order to preserve these precious murals intact, the temperature in the church is maintained at a constant 20 degrees all year round. It is said that the materials used in these murals are similar to those in the Dunhuang murals, which is why it is necessary to maintain the same temperature environment as that in the Dunhuang caves. Although the chapel is not large, it has everything you need. The statue of Our Lady of Grace on the altar exudes a simple, solemn and sacred atmosphere.
Transportation: Same as Guia Lighthouse, you can easily find it after reaching the top of Guia Hill by cable car, bus or taxi. It is adjacent to the lighthouse. In addition, you can take bus No. 6, 28C, or H1 directly to the vicinity of the church.
