Victory Fort is a unique stronghold, located at the end of the Nangan Airport runway. Its former mission was to protect the airport. Although no soldiers are stationed there now, the intense battlefield atmosphere is still palpable upon entering.
The coolest thing about this place is seeing the former "anti-airborne fort." The fort has several firing ports facing the sky, giving you an idea of the tense atmosphere of those days as they tried to prevent enemy airborne landings. There's also an observation deck at the top of the fort with an incredible view—you can watch planes take off and land right on the runway right before your eyes. It's truly breathtaking! ✈️
It's a bit remote, making it difficult to reach unless you're cycling or driving. There's also little lighting inside the fort, so it's best to visit during the day.
🎖️ Atmosphere/Facilities:
Victory Fort retains the old sentry posts, dormitories, and slogans. Although a bit tarnished, it evokes a sense of history. Walking through the somewhat dim corridors, you can immerse yourself in the daily lives of the soldiers back then.
There aren't many tourists here, and the atmosphere is very peaceful, perfect for those who enjoy exploring and seeking hidden gems. Standing on the observation deck, you can watch the whirring airplanes on one side and the tranquil bay on the other. The interweaving of modernity and history is truly unique.
Admission: Completely free.
Parking: Convenient parking is available at the entrance.
Victory Fort is very close to Victory Villa (a tunnel that requires reservations), making it a great place to combine your visit. Since it's right next to the airport, if you're flying into Matsu or have some time before departing, it's a great first or last stop!
🕰️ Opening Hours:
Open 24/7 (outdoor area).
