Nago Castle Park

Nago Castle Park is one of the best cherry blossom spots in Okinawa, with thousands of sakura trees painting the hills in shades of pink. I visited during the Nago Cherry Blossom Festival, and the lively atmosphere made the experience even better. The climb up the hill is rewarding, offering spectacular views of Nago Bay and the surrounding cityscape. The park itself is spacious, with well-maintained walking paths and plenty of seating areas, making it a great spot for a picnic under the blossoms. Unlike mainland Japan, where cherry blossoms are mostly light pink or white, Okinawa’s cherry trees bloom in a rich, deep pink, creating a vibrant landscape. The festival features food stalls selling Okinawan treats like taco rice and sata andagi, adding to the enjoyment. If you’re in Okinawa in late January or early February, this is a must-see location for an unforgettable hanami experience.
