Wat Phra Pathom Chedi is a first-class royal temple of the Ratcha Wora Maha Viharn type. Its most notable feature is Phra Pathom Chedi or Phra Thom Chedi, which is one of the largest and tallest chedis in Thailand (120.45 meters). It has a long history and is believed to enshrine the relics of Lord Buddha.
The current Phra Pathom Chedi is a Sri Lankan-style Sukhothai-style chedi. It is a large chedi in the shape of an inverted bell with a huge flaring mouth. The structure is made of logs, tied with huge chains, bricks, cement, and decorated with tiles. It consists of four wihans and two layers of glass walls. It was built during the reign of King Rama IV, who built two original chedis: a chedi in the style of the Sanchi Stupa in India during the reign of King Ashoka the Great, and an ancient Khmer-style chedi.
In addition to Phra Pathom Chedi, in the lower courtyard to the south of Phra Pathom Chedi and the ordination hall, there is a principal Buddha image, a white stone Buddha image. Which are two of the four Buddha images in the sitting position with their feet dangling, preaching posture, built in the Dvaravati era.
