Nantou Half-Day Trip: Nantou's Little Taipei

Located in Shui-li Township, Nantou County, beneath the Ming Tan Dam, Checheng was once a bustling hub during the Japanese colonial period due to the construction of the Daguan Power Plant and the thriving timber industry. At that time, Checheng served as a major distribution center for timber in Nantou, with constant activity and lively crowds, earning it the nickname "Little Taipei."

Checheng is often overlooked among Nantou's many attractions, but it is actually a well-planned area with restrooms, vendors, and beautiful scenery. It's a hidden gem that deserves a visit.

This was my first time visiting, and upon arrival, I was greeted by the prominent Railway Tourism Elementary School sign, perfect for photo ops. The elementary school has been transformed into an exhibition space, and if you have any questions, the nearby visitor center is there to assist.

The entire area is thoughtfully designed. As you explore further, you'll come across an unused railway 🛤️, perfect for taking photos, as well as a tourist factory showcasing history and offering DIY experiences. There's also a fantastic bakery that I plan to try next time!
