"Daishogunsha" (Daishogunsha Shrine)
During the Nara period, Emperor Kotoku built the shrine "Daishogunsha" in 650 (the first year of the Hakuchi era) to protect the then-capital city of Naniwa Nagare Toyosaki Shrine.
The enshrined deity is Yachimatahime-no-kami, a goddess of protection against evil.
In 901 (the first year of the Engi era) during the Heian period, Sugawara no Michizane, the enshrined deity of Osaka Tenmangu Shrine, visited Daishogunsha Shrine on his way to Dazaifu and prayed for a safe journey.
Osaka Tenmangu Shrine was subsequently founded in 949 (the third year of the Tenryaku era).
Daishogunsha Shrine was founded in 650, approximately 300 years before Tenmangu Shrine, and Osaka Tenmangu Shrine was built on the site of Daishogunsha Shrine.
Today, it is enshrined as a subsidiary shrine, and Osaka Tenmangu Shrine holds a festival called the "Futsugyosai" at Daishogun Shrine before the New Year's Day festival. It is customary to offer a land rent, known as "so," during the ritual.
Among the shrines within Osaka Tenmangu Shrine's grounds, the most prominent is the "Shirayonesha," also known as the "Shirayone Inarisha."
The shrine is dedicated to the great god Inari and is known as the "inner shrine of Fushimi Inari Taisha."
Its distinctive red lanterns are a distinctive feature.
