Peru | Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley

📸 Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley

Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) is a stunning peak located near Cusco in southern Peru, standing at an altitude of approximately 5,200 meters. Its vibrant stripes of red, yellow, green, and purple are the result of mineral deposits, earning it the nickname "Mountain of Seven Colors."✨ The colorful patterns were revealed only recently due to melting snow, making it a relatively new tourist attraction.

Due to the high altitude, it’s essential to prepare for altitude sickness by taking precautions such as medication, drinking coca tea, and allowing flexibility in your schedule. Even a short walk can leave you breathless. The hike to the summit takes about 1.5 to 2 hours on foot. While hiking offers a sense of accomplishment, you can also opt for transportation options like motorbikes or horses, depending on your health and stamina.

The view from the summit is breathtaking, showcasing the grandeur of nature⛰️.

On your way back, consider taking the route through Red Valley, where the land is rich in iron oxide, creating a striking red landscape. Visiting both Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley together allows you to experience the magnificent contrast created by nature.

💰 Entrance fee: 30 soles (approximately 1,200 yen)
An additional 30 soles is required to pass through Red Valley.

Tour packages are available for around 3,200 yen. Although the tours start early at 3 or 4 AM, they include breakfast and lunch, making them a good value.

The recommended season to visit is during the dry season from May to September. During the rainy season from November to March, rain or snow may obscure the beautiful views.
